Running into 2025
i'm psychic so here are my trend predictions
As we are quickly running toward the near year, I figured its time to start putting out my predictions for what we’ll see.
2025 is shaping up to be the year where opulence makes a grand return. Quiet luxury is stepping aside for full-on indulgence, and minimalism is fading into the background. Drama, partying, and a sense of bold celebration will define the year's energy. Vintage influences are strong, with nods to the 70s and 90s, creating an intriguing mix of rococo elegance and sporty femininity. Volume will be a hallmark, with exaggerated details dominating across the board.
Fashion
Boho is making a comeback, but with a twist. Instead of the Coachella chic of years past, this iteration focuses on sheer fabrics, dramatic volume, frills, and ruffles. Fringe is a key player here, adding a 70s flair to jackets, skirts, and accessories.
At the same time, the quiet luxury aesthetic remains relevant, with demure styles like big collars (think Peter Pan and tie-neck tops) and pleated skirts maintaining their presence as wardrobe staples.
Hemlines are taking a dramatic turn, with asymmetric cuts making a strong statement. Unlike the mullet dresses of the 2010s, this time it’s all about side-to-side asymmetry.
On the other end of the spectrum, there’s a divide between ultra-short and ultra-covered looks. Micro shorts—essentially rebranded hot pants—will dominate daring outfits, while chic full-coverage ensembles with capri pants (*internal screaming*) nod to Audrey Hepburn’s timeless elegance.
Silhouettes will be a defining focus in 2025, with volume and structure taking center stage. Wide, structured pieces, peplum accents, and boxy shoulders will command attention.
Dresses over pants will make a controversial return, but this isn’t the layered dress and jeans look of the early 2000s. Instead, think flowy, South Asian-inspired pairings of long tops and bottoms (BRB still cringing at the dupatta drama of the summer).
Racing sporty fashion from the 90s will also surge, featuring bright jackets, bold hats, and a playful, edgy vibe. Though not everyone’s cup of tea, this trend promises excitement for those who embrace it.
Opulence will also manifest in fabrics and prints, with lace, jacquard, sequins, and floral patterns taking center stage. These elements will bring a sense of drama and luxury to both everyday wear and statement pieces.
Charms will rise as a whimsical accent, attempting to replace bows in popularity. While over-the-top charm applications may fade quickly, subtle charm bracelets, necklaces, and single bag charms are likely to stick around for the long haul.
Shoes
Boho influences extend to footwear, with dune-inspired sandals featuring ankle wraps and metal details. Suede and leather are in high demand. Charm accents are making their way onto shoes, but their impracticality may limit their widespread adoption.
Peep-toe shoes are making a comeback alongside an abundance of sandals, signaling the return of "free feet."
Racing-style Pumas are set to replace Adidas Sambas and Gazelles in trendy wardrobes. Studded clogs with metal details will merge the 70s and metal trends, while thong sandals, particularly slingback styles, will dominate summer, including jelly versions for a playful twist.
Beauty:
Party grunge makeup is making a triumphant return, rebranded as indie sleaze 2.0. This edgy look leans into smudged eyeliner that looks more like you slept in it than meticulously applied it, creating an effortlessly messy vibe. Glitter and smoky eyes are key elements, bringing a dramatic, party-ready energy that feels raw and rebellious.
On the flip side, the clean girl aesthetic is evolving to feature an iridescent glow. This look channels the frosted finishes of 90s and early 2000s makeup, giving fresh-faced beauty a luminous twist. Lips are also going retro, with gray-brown shades making a controversial comeback despite their divisive appeal. Red lips will see a resurgence for bold looks but will soften into just-bitten berry tones for everyday wear.
Hair trends are embracing volume and natural texture, leaving behind the strict precision of recent styles. Side parts are firmly back, offering a softer, more balanced alternative to the middle part’s harshness. Big, windswept hair will dominate, encouraging people to give their hair a break and celebrate its natural movement.
Three distinct hairstyles will take center stage in 2025. Shag cuts with grown-out bangs bring a rugged, 70s-inspired edge, offering a fresh twist on Sabrina Carpenter’s iconic look. For those who prefer longer hair, the trend leans toward textured, weighty styles with minimal layers—think hair so heavy it’s almost dragging you down. On the opposite end of the spectrum, short hair is embracing the long-avoided "triangle head" shape, leaning into bold, structured silhouettes.
Color & Patterns
Bold patterns take over, with polka dots, vertical stripes, and busy floral prints leading the way.
Colors will evolve throughout the year: earthy shades dominate all year (neutrals, camel, navy, bone, espresso), while pastels like mint and powder pink define spring. Bright, bold shades such as magenta and cobalt rule summer, while muted tones like dusty pink and fig take over in fall. Yellow, emerald, bright red, burgundy, and icy blue will remain prominent year-round.
Home
Maximalism takes over interiors, with lived-in, cozy spaces reminiscent of Nancy Meyers movie sets.
Functional pieces double as art, from sculptural lamps to quirky doorstops and curtain pullbacks.
Unlacquered finishes replace polished gold and brass, offering vintage charm with patina.
All-white kitchens and gray floors are fading, replaced by darker or warm wood tones that create a more inviting atmosphere.
Wallpaper continues to grow in popularity, with florals, toile, and geometric prints gracing more homes. Backsplashes now extend fully up walls for a dramatic effect.
Large, statement art pieces are taking over gallery walls, with tapestries adding texture and charm.
The oddest trend? Beds without accent pillows. Instead, people are opting for tucked-in duvets or a single long bolster pillow for a simpler, streamlined look.
2025 is shaping up to be a year defined by indulgence, nostalgia, and individuality. With a mix of party-ready indie sleaze and vintage-inspired opulence, this year’s trends feel as though they’ve walked straight out of Mary-Kate and Ashley’s style archives. From boho drama and asymmetric hemlines to maximalist interiors and bold beauty, the energy is daring and celebratory.
This is the year to embrace self-expression, play with textures and silhouettes, and mix the past with the present. Whether you lean into the glitz of party grunge or the sophistication of quiet luxury’s evolution, 2025 encourages you to make bold choices that reflect your personal style.
